Preparing for My SFSU BECA Lecture On Facebook - What do you like/not like about it?

Hey in the great tradition of my readers helping me make everything I do better, I thought I'd let you know ahead of time that I'm working on a lecture for this Thursday and I would really love some input from Facebook users about what they feel is most important to them about it.

Or, if you're a Facebook user that isn't particularly impressed, that's important too.

I'm going to focus on my own experiences in the lecture, but it's always nice to counter them with input from others - especially when others may feel very differently than I do about something. I like to let the students know about as many sides of everything as I can about the topics that I discuss. (Especially if I feel really strongly about something, but everyone disagrees with me. I still get to say my piece cause it's my lecture :) but then, more than ever, I need to make it clear to the students that, well, everyone else disagrees with me...

well you get the picture.... long story short: chime in! :-) send me email...or friend me on facebook and send data that way :-)

Slow Burn Puts The Burn On You

Another stinker. Slow Burn, with Ray Liotta.

Is she telling the truth? Is she lying? Is she black? Is she white?

Why do we care? (is what I kept asking myself)

I couldn't keep watching past the first half hour or so.

So Happy To Be Playing Music Again

This is just a catch up note from last weekend on how much fun it's getting to be playing parties and events and things again...

I guess I used to get nervous and couldn't allow myself to enjoy the moment as much as I can now, now that my groove has become a second nature.

Now I don't have to think about what I'm doing. I just go into some kind of trance or something...

But what a rush last weekend to notice that everybody in the building I was playing in was smiling and digging it. They had my music piped in throughout the building (it was kind of an office/client party type thing) -- and everyone was moving their heads back and forth...and smiling.

And they'd walk in and out of the room I was actually in and look over at me, and smile, and kinda say "thanks" and "hey what'ssup?" at the same time with a nod of their heads as they were walking through.

It was a peak experience for sure.

Ready for more of those!

Notes On A Scandal Sucks. Don't Bother.

Another hopelessly stupid film...
Notes on a scandal
is just really, really underdeveloped and unbelievable.

You don't just find yourself unable to resist your fifteen year old (special needs) student because he keeps trying. Jeez.

Best stupid quote (referring to sleeping with her student):
"It's like having another drink, when you know you shouldn't!"

Next!

Zodiac Was Worthwhile - But Don't Try To Work At The Same Time

So that would be a thumbs up for Zodiac.

Nice attention to detail! It went a little long as a result, but hey, it had to. It held up fine.

But, if you're like me, and you like to watch movies while you work on whatever seemingly endless web project you're working on, pick another one if you're really trying to get anything done.

Also - jesus, you'd think Hollywood could figure out to make the type bigger for the last three screens of text on a DVD that was originally projected on a screen. Especially when they completely explain whatever the hell happens at the end. It was unreadable on my 32ish" screen. (I still don't know :)

Ok I'm getting up early just to blog now. (Well, there are other good reasons...but that's yet another one.)

Must catch you up on things...

Fracture Is So Dumb I Can't Even Keep Watching

Fracture starts out pretty good and just gets worse and worse.

Now I'm an hour in and I just can't watch any more. The suspects representing himself and outsmarting every stupid cop and DA around. The dialogue just hit a new all time low a few minutes ago.

Game over.

Show went great! Dates For New Shows November 11 and 30th!

Hey my show went great! There were lots of people there and the geeky part of the evening I hoped would take place, did!

To my delight and surprise, John Perry Barlow, John Gilmore, Annie Harrison and Brian Zisk all stopped by.

There were EFF and Internet Archive folks there too! And lots of other cool friends I'll get around to talking about later.

Anyway huge success.

Next shows at the same place (Ireland's 32, SF) will be:

1) November 11 - my birthday party (b-day the 10th) 9pm - midnight+

2) November 30 - Friday night 7-9 (woot!)

I'll have video going up soon too!

Thanks again to Ron Taylor and my sister for making it all possible.

(I was off playing hookey at the Singularity Summit hanging out with Jamais Cascio during most of what was supposed to be our practice time on Saturday!) (Soooo much more on all that later!)
